Short films can launch the careers of screenwriters and directors. Many of our alumni have gone on to gain representation, sell their screenplays, get staffed on Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, & BBC shows, and develop their shorts into features and TV shows, as a direct result of producing their short films.

Shorts can open doors! But who is our Short Film Fund for?

Our Short Film Fund is for anyone who has a unique story to tell.

We are open to all genres and stories. Past winners, like Alexandra Qin and Chelsea Isabella Clark-James have tackled tough social issues like addiction in their scripts, while other winners like Sam Baron, Hannah Leopard, and Laura Spini & Laurence Brook created off-beat, quirky comedies. Anthony Florez’s TWO BEARS told a story of redemption.

We want to read your script! The Grand Prize Winner will receive, among other prizes, a $15,000 cash production grant to make their film.

Our Short Film Fund is for filmmakers who have already completed principal photography and are seeking finishing funds for post-production.

This season, we will award a separate prize of $4,000 in finishing funds. We know how difficult it can be to raise the kinds of funds needed to shoot your film, much less cover the costs of post-production.

Past Short Film Fund winner Brendan Beachman used his winnings to pay for critical elements in post-production, including a composer and musician, colorist, sound designer, and VFX artist.

Our Short Film Fund is for filmmakers who want to shoot their films with the best equipment in the industry.

The Grand Prize winner will receive free camera equipment from ARRI Rental for the duration of the shoot (some restrictions apply), providing the highest production standards possible and saving thousands of dollars in rental costs.

Our Short Film Fund is for screenwriters who seek mentorship and guidance from industry professionals.

The Grand Prize Winner and Finishing Funds Winner will receive mentorship from Oscar-nominated producer Maria Gracia Turgeon, and guidance in developing a film festival strategy from Tribeca programmer Kimberley Browning.

Our Short Film Fund is for screenwriters and filmmakers who want access to A-List actors and ongoing production support.

Actors such as Amit Shah (Midsomer Murders, Fresh Meat), Ben Whishaw (James Bond, Black Doves), Alex Lawther (Andor, The End of the F**king World), Alisha Boe (13 Reasons Why), and T’Nia Miller (The Haunting of Bly Manor, The Peripheral) have all been cast in our shorts.

They have come on board for a fraction of their usual fee because they see the potential in our winning scripts and filmmakers.

Our Short Film Fund is for screenwriters who seek valuable feedback on their work.

Every submission receives at least 100 words in feedback from our readers, detailing what is working in their script and what needs strengthening. On top of that, the Top 5 script finalists will receive written feedback from one of our esteemed judges and Vanishing Angle will provide feedback to all Finishing Funds finalists.

Vanishing Angle is a production company that nurtures the freshest voices in the independent film community with award-winning films and series, taking projects from script through distribution.

It’s simple – our Short Film Fund is for you.

We developed the Short Film Fund to provide a unique opportunity for emerging writers, directors and producers from around the world to receive much-needed financial support to get their work produced and seen.
