Universal Writers Programme LA, USA The Universal Writers Program identifies up-and-coming and experienced screenwriters with unique points of view that build upon the Studio’s commitment to telling stories and creating films that reflect the vast diversity of our audiences. The only feature film program sanctioned by the Writers Guild of America West (WGAW), the Program develops storytellers who organically incorporate multicultural and global perspectives in screenwriting.

The one-year paid program engages writers to create material for development consideration; however, concept development is not guaranteed.

Refer to Link for current costs. The one-year program starts in August and runs through the end of July of the following calendar year.

It’s a hothouse for writers. Graduates from the course include those who’ve gone on to write for SHAMELESS and INDIAN SUMMERS for Channel 4 and YOUNGERS and BANANA for E4. This is your chance, not to follow in their footsteps, but to discover your own path to making great television.

Free Applications open mid-September and close each year on October 1st
The Cassian Elwes Independent Screenwriting Fellowship USA The Cassian Elwes Independent Screenwriting Fellowship is an annual program designed to encourage and identify new talent in the field of independent cinema by awarding one screenwriter each year with an all-expenses-paid trip to the Sundance Film Festival and an opportunity to meet with Producer Cassian Elwes (Lee Daniels’ The Butler, Ain’t Them Bodies Saints). Each year, The Black List will choose ten screenplays imbued with an independent spirit by unrepresented screenwriters, which will be sent on to Mr. Elwes for his consideration. The shortlist will be determined in early December and the Fellowship recipient will be selected by Mr. Elwes by the end of the calendar year. Refer to Link for current costs. TBA. Approx. October time. (Check here for updates)
